5 Decorating Ideas to Try Now

decorating ideas

It’s a new year, so why not try a new look in the living room or bedroom? Sprucing up your space with the latest trends is fun. For 2016, designers say animal prints, plants, metals, and more will be big looks. Here are five decorating ideas to get your creative juices flowing.

1. Metal Head
Expect to see a lot of metals in home décor in 2016. Brass and yellow metal have been in demand since the 1990s, and this year you can expect to see more copper, silver, and rose metals, too, particularly for occasional tables and accessories. Metals are also popular for lamps, artwork, and other accessories.

2. Form + Function
Decorative objects that perform a function will be popular for 2016. Examples include wooden or wicker baskets that hold blankets or toys, or poufs and ottomans that provide extra seating while adding a pop of color to a room.

3. Green With Envy
Design experts say bigger, bolder, and more lush green spaces are on trend this year. Add potted plants and grasses to every room in your house. There are plenty of hardy, low-maintenance plants to choose from, such as succulents, rubber tree, ficus, and philodendron. Extend the trend outdoors and add more bushes and wild flowers to your yard.

4. Flower Power
Maybe it’s our burning desire to travel or our love affair with the beach, but we’re excited about the bright colors and romance of flowers in home furnishings in 2016. Tropical colors and floral designs and prints are all the rage; expect them to show up on everything from throw pillows and blankets to curtains and accent rugs.

5. Wild Side
Nature seems to never go out of style. Incorporate the trend with antler-inspired candlestick holders, animal print pillows, throws, rugs, or artwork that reflect animal skin or animals themselves.
