Affordable Bedroom Ideas for Kids
It doesn’t take a lot of cash to take children’s rooms from boring to brilliant. But it does take a little time and creativity. Smart moms know transforming an ordinary room into a special space just for kids can be as easy as organizing clutter or painting a wall. Here are a few of their bedroom ideas and tricks.

Kids seem to have an instinctive need to draw on walls. Lucky for you, chalkboard paint has become more popular (and easier to find) in recent years, and it’s a quick way to personalize a plain room. Painting a whole wall and handing over a big box of chalk will inspire your child’s imagination—and perhaps even get him to do his homework.

Another creative bedroom idea and use for chalkboard paint: draw-on drawers. Transform a dresser by painting the front with the chalkboard paint (or you can use chalkboard contact paper, like we did here, for the same effect). Kids will get a kick out of identifying what’s in each drawer with words and symbols, and they may even get dressed for school faster.

You don’t have to spend a lot of money on wall art when your child is an artist—and most children are. Simply choose some of your little one’s best work and collect a bunch of inexpensive frames in various shapes and sizes. Use spray paint in fun colors to make them pop, throw in a few cherished photos, and hang them all in a group for an instant gallery that’s a treat to look at.

A favorite collection of cars, dinosaurs, tiny dolls, or building blocks becomes an instant room accessory when stashed in clear glass or plastic jars. Plus, this tactic makes for quick and easy clean-up.

Store larger collections and bigger toys in bright buckets. Use paint pens or stickers to personalize them with your child’s name. Hook the buckets to a short curtain rod or towel rod to get them off the floor and out of the way. Bookcases look neater when used with bins and baskets. Clutter can be tucked away, while favorite items can stay in the spotlight.
