Feed the Fight Against Hunger with Rent-A-Center’s Fill the Fridge
Everything seems to be accessible nowadays. Practically anything we want is available right at our fingertips through our computers. Even food delivery services have advanced to the point where anyone can get a week’s worth of groceries without ever leaving the couch! And yet, despite this abundance, many Americans continue to battle hunger every single day.
At Rent-A-Center, we’re inviting you to help us change that through our Fill the Fridge campaign! From August 30th to September 26th, you can donate to local food banks in your region each time you save money at Rent-A-Center! With your help, partnering food banks can help get food on the tables of people across the country and start the journey toward ending hunger in America.
Hunger in America is Closer Than You Think
Even in a time when grocery shelves are stocked and refrigerated trucks cart food from coast to coast, many Americans struggle with food insecurity. In 2018, it was reported that over 37 million people — 11 million of which were children — dealt with hunger at one time or another. And that number has only gone up.
In fact, Feeding America estimates that more than 54 million people — 18 million of which will be children — will struggle with food insecurity in 2020. That’s about 1 out of every 8 people! Whether it’s down your street, right next door, or even in your home, hunger and food insecurity is much closer than we realize.
School Closings are Leaving Kids Hungry
Millions of children nationwide depend on the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Program at their school. This program provides kids from elementary to high school with consistent meals and a reliable source of nutrition. According to PR Newswire, more than half of the students in elementary and secondary schools across the country rely on these programs, and without them, they would be at risk of not having enough to eat.
But due to recent events, many schools have been forced to close their doors, leaving many children wondering if they’ll have enough to eat. For these kids, hunger isn’t just an inconvenience. Feeding America reports that hungry children are more easily susceptible to physical and intellectual developmental issues, growth impairments, and a higher chance of getting sick.
Food insecurity can even leave lasting damage on a child. The stress of not knowing when their next meal will be can cause children to develop social and behavioral problems and perform worse in school. The damages caused by hunger can truly impact a child for the rest of their life!
Change Is a Donation Away at Rent-A-Center
All of the facts and statistics seem to point to an ongoing increase of hungry Americans. But it doesn’t have to stay that way — and your local Rent-A-Center is working to make sure that it doesn’t! During Rent-A-Center’s Fill the Fridge campaign from August 30th to September 26th, we’re partnering with local food banks from across the U.S. and Puerto Rico to help get food onto more tables all over the country. How? With help from your donations!
During checkout, you can choose to purchase a pin-up card as a donation to your store’s local food bank partner. Each donation will help our food bank partners increase their food supply and decrease hungry stomachs across America.
And if it feels like we’re making it sound easy, it’s because it is easy! While you’re receiving excellent deals and affordable prices on the Rent-A-Center products you love — like appliances, electronics, furniture, and more! — you’re making hunger one less thing for an American child or adult to worry about. That’s money well spent!
