DIY: How To Turn a Vintage Suitcase Into an Adorable Dog Bed
You love your pets. They deserve the best. But the best doesn’t have to be expensive. It can simply be a creative DIY project that expresses your affection for your fur baby, like this vintage suitcase turned into a comfy dog bed.
This stylish bed — suitable for small dogs as well as cats — has cool vintage character and only costs a few dollars to make. You can find an old suitcase at a local thrift store. Then it’s just a quick trip to the hardware store for the rest of the materials, and you’re ready to get to work.
Materials Needed:
- Hard-shell suitcase
- Screwdriver
- Sponge and natural cleaner
- 4 foot plates with screws
- Pen or pencil
- Drill
- 4 furniture feet
- Plastic screw covers
- Blanket or pillow
Step 1
Disconnect the top and bottom of the suitcase. To remove the top, use a screwdriver to force off the hinges from the exterior edge.
Step 2
Clean the interior and exterior of the bottom half of the suitcase with a sponge and some nontoxic cleaner.
Step 3
On the bottom of the suitcase, position the four furniture foot plates, one in each corner. Using a pen or pencil, mark the screw holes for each of the four foot plates.
Step 4
Once your marks have been made, drill into each hole. Then reposition each foot plate and drill in the screws.
Step 5
Once all of the screws have been added, screw in each furniture foot.
Step 6
Turn the suitcase over. Place the screw covers on the sharp screw ends that have poked through the suitcase.
Step 7
Add in the bedding. A comfy blanket or standard pillow works well for most suitcases.
