Liability Damage Waiver: Protect Your Products & Peace of Mind

Man with RAC laptopEven the best planners know that the unexpected happens. Someone steals your smartphone. Or your home gets struck by lightning and damages your electronics. To give you peace of mind that you’re protected when something unexpected happens to your electronics, furniture, appliances, computers, or smartphones, Rent-A-Center offers the Liability Damage Waiver (LDW).

If you’re considering adding LDW to your rental agreement, here are answers to some of the most common questions about this worry-free option.

What is Liability Damage Waiver (LDW)?
Liability Damage Waiver (LDW) is an optional add-on to your rental agreement that protects you from liability in the event your rental product is stolen or damaged by a natural disaster, fire, or smoke. Without LDW, you are responsible for the cost to repair or replace the stolen or damaged merchandise. By paying a small fee with each rental payment, you pass this responsibility on to Rent-A-Center, so you can breathe easy!

What does LDW cover?
LDW protects you from a wide range of unexpected events, such as theft, fire, lightning, flooding, and other acts of nature. It does not cover loss or damage from carelessness. Also, keep in mind that your rental and LDW payments must be up-to-date through the date of loss.

Who is eligible for LDW?
LDW protection is available to all customers with a current agreement, in all states excluding California.

Do I need LDW if I have homeowners or renters insurance?
Most customers still benefit from LDW, even if they have homeowners or renters insurance. Many insurance policies have high deductibles and may not cover rental products. We recommend checking to see if your insurance will pay to replace or repair rental merchandise, and consider the amount of your deductible when deciding whether LDW is right for you and your budget.

How much does LDW cost?
In most states, the Liability Damage Waiver is only 10 percent of your rental payment. Ask a store associate for your state’s pricing. For just a few extra dollars, you can rest easy!

How do I add LDW to my agreement?
Whether you’re starting a new rental agreement or you’re already a customer, you can opt in to LDW anytime. Call or drop by any Rent-A-Center location and speak with a store associate about adding the Liability Damage Waiver to your agreement. It only takes a few minutes.

How do I activate LDW after an incident?
Simply call your store manager. If your product is damaged, we will attempt to repair it. If your product is stolen, we will ask you to provide a police report.

Can I cancel LDW?
Yes. If you want to stop payments on your Liability Damage Waiver, just let a store associate know. There are no fees or penalties for changing your mind.
