A Holiday Recipe for Christmas Tree Brownies

Christmas Tree Brownies

Whether it’s a holiday cookie exchange, an office party, or just a thoughtful gift for a friend, these sweet little brownie Christmas trees are sure to please. The best part? They’re as easy to make as they are festive. So, grab your brownie mix, your decorating supplies, and your kiddos, and start baking.

Ingredients

  • 1 box brownie mix
  • Water, vegetable oil, and eggs, as called for on brownie mix box
  • 1 c. prepared vanilla frosting
  • Green food coloring
  • Candy for tree decorations, such as red and green sprinkles, mini candy-coated chocolate baking bits, red hots, or red and green sugar crystals
  • Mini (2-in.) peppermint sticks or candy canes, unwrapped

Instructions

1. Prepare the brownie batter according to the package directions. Line the baking pan with foil, extending the foil about 2 inches over the sides of the pan. Grease the foil with cooking spray or shortening.

2. Pour the batter into the pan and bake the brownies according to the directions. Let cool completely, about 1 hour.

3. Remove the brownies from the pan by lifting the foil and placing on a cutting board. Peel away foil. Cut brownies into triangles (3 rows lengthwise, 7 triangles per row). Save smaller pieces for snacking.

4. If using peppermint sticks, insert one stick into the bottom of each brownie triangle, to make the tree trunks. If using candy canes, break off the curved part before inserting into brownies.

5. Stir 2-3 drops of food coloring into vanilla frosting. Spoon frosting into small resealable food-storage plastic bag; partially seal bag. Cut off tiny bottom corner of bag. Squeeze bag to pipe frosting over brownies in a zigzag pattern, or however you wish.

6. Sprinkle each tree with candy decorations. Serve and enjoy.
