TV Guide: Which Television Is Right for You?

How to Choose a TV

Watching TV has never been better, thanks to technology that makes images and sounds so lifelike, you’ll feel like you’re a part of the action. Today’s TVs offer a slim, modern design and plenty of extras for gamers and music lovers. With so many choices, how do you select the right set? Here are a few things to consider.

  • Features: In the most general sense, there are two basic types of TVs: high-definition televisions (HDTVs) and Smart TVs. HDTVs have a superior picture quality over non-HDTVs, which means you have a greater depth of color and superior image rendering. Smart TVs (which are also high definition) are equipped with Wi-Fi and apps, which allow you to access the Internet for streaming or games.
  • Location: What room will the TV be in? The room size will help you decide how big the TV needs to be so that everyone has a clear view. Also, take into consideration whether or not the TV will be mounted on the wall or stand atop a console. For kitchens and guest rooms, TVs that are smaller (24, 30, or 40 inches) will work. For living rooms, game rooms and media rooms, the larger sets (up to 70 inches) are ideal.
  • Purpose: Will your TV also be used for gaming and streaming? Then consider the apps and features of a Smart TV. If you’re a music aficionado, be sure to check out the sound quality and speakers built into the model.
