Rent-A-Center’s Soup to Nuts Helps Fight Hunger

Many Americans are forced each month to juggle the costs of housing, health care, clothing, transportation and more. Too often, the ball that gets dropped is food. That’s why Rent-A-Center started Soup to Nuts, a national store-based fundraising campaign aimed at helping food banks meet increased demands of their services.

U.S. government reports show an alarming 49.1 million Americans — 16 million of whom are children — live in food-insecure households, where consistent access to nutritious food is limited by lack of money and other resources. In other words, entire families are worried about where their next meals will come from. That’s where Soup to Nuts comes in.

What began in 2009 as an effort to collect cans of soup and jars of peanut butter has grown into a cause that has donated more than $1.25 million to food banks across the country. Each September, during Hunger Action Month, eleven regional food banks share $255,000 worth of Rent-A-Center funding for hunger relief. The donation is in addition to the grassroots hunger-relief campaign staged across Rent-A-Center’s 3,000-plus locations fittingly named Soup to Nuts. The money raised via the virtual food drive is distributed to food banks across the country at the conclusion of the month-long campaign.

You can support hunger relief all September long by donating $1 or more at your local Rent-A-Center store. The names of those who donate will be displayed on a grocery bag tag in stores throughout the month.

One dollar is all it takes to make a difference.
