Get the Look: Spruce Up Your Home With Color

A fresh coat of paint in a bright hue is an easy and inexpensive way to make any space look fresh and new. Here are a few ways to punch up your apartment or home decor with a little — or a lot — of color.

If you want to add just a little color to your space, choosing a matching (or contrasting) shade for the insides of shelving or a bookcase is a quick update that puts books, family photographs, toys, or knickknacks in the spotlight.

Wallpaper can be expensive, difficult to hang, and hard to remove. An easy alternate are textured rollers. Available in everything from modern graphic patterns to classic florals, they’re easy to use — and easy to cover up when it’s time to move.

The TV is often the centerpiece of the living room, but bulky electronics can draw the attention away from your furniture and accessories. Frame your TV like you might frame a painting, with a border of painted wood, to turn it into a work of art that works with the rest of your home décor.

And if something more dramatic is what you had in mind for your home decor, painting floor to ceiling is a good way to make a splash. Paint an accent wall in a color that contrasts with the existing paint, or pick two colors that work well together and change the look and feel of an entire room. Either way, you’ll end up with a different — and more interesting — look than when you started.
