DIY Home Décor: The Cutest, Easiest No-Sew Accent Pillows

If you haven’t been able to find your ideal throw pillows for your sofa or bed, look no further than this easy, no-sew pillow project. In less than an hour, you can make your own pillows using whatever fabric you like. Best of all, no sewing machine or sewing skills are required.

What you need:

  • Pillow form or pillow stuffing
  • Fabric (¾ yard per 12-inch pillow)
  • Fabric scissors
  • Iron-on fusing web (Stitch Witchery, for example)
  • Clothes iron
  • Ruler or measuring tape
  • Hot glue gun

Step No. 1: Measure your pillows. Buy enough fabric to cover each pillow, making sure to leave a seam allowance of 1 inch on each side.

Step No. 2: Cut two square pieces fit to each pillow (+ 1 inch/side) using fabric scissors.

Step No. 3: Place your two fabric pieces right sides together, so that the backside of each piece is facing out (you will be flipping it right side out later). Cut three pieces of fusing web to the length of your sides.

Step No. 4: At one edge, sandwich your first piece of fusing web between the two pieces of fabric. Iron at the edge to melt the fusing between the two pieces of fabric, bonding the fabric together.

Step No. 5: Follow Step #4 for your two adjacent sides, leaving one side open.

Step No. 6: Gently pull your fabric right side out. Use your fingers to assist in pushing out the corners. Slide your pillow form or stuffing into the pillow sleeve.

Step No. 7: For the open edge, fold in the edges on the top and bottom of the opening. Iron them to get a clean edge. You can use the fusing web again to close, but it’s tricky to iron the pillow cover with the pillow inside. For an easier alternative, use a glue gun to add a strip of hot glue down the center of the folded edges and press the two pieces together to close.
