Materials
- White mugs
- Sticker letters
- Scotch tape
- Pencil
- Oil-based paint pens
Before you start: If you don’t have blank white mugs around the house, you can find them at your local dollar store. Wash and dry them completely before you start decorating.
Directions
Part 1: Design Your DIY Mug
First, choose a design for your mug. If you want to personalize with the classic “DAD” or “Dad’s” monogram and want a cleaner look than your own handwriting, use scrapbook letter stickers as your guide. Simply position the stickers and trace around the letters with a pencil. Remove the stickers once you’ve finished tracing, and then go over the outline using an oil-based paint pen.
If you’re looking for something a bit more colorful or unique, add your stickers and then directly paint over them with the pens, instead of tracing around them with a pencil. Once finished, peel off the stickers to reveal the letter design.
For designs with multiple lines of text, use scotch tape as a guide to get even spacing.
Part 2: Make It Permanent
Once you have finished designing your mugs, place them on the rack in a cool oven. Set the oven to 350 degrees, and bake the mugs for 30 minutes. Turn off the oven but keep the mugs inside until they are completely cool, roughly one hour.
Give your mugs a quick wash, and they are ready for use!
