Though there are people who live in houses upward of 50,000 square feet, and though the tiny-house movement — choosing to live in a space between 100 and 400 square feet — is a thing, chances are your home lies somewhere in the middle. If it’s on the smaller side of the spectrum, you no doubt want to make the most of it. Here are six tips for small space living that can help you do just that.

Use Vertical Surfaces Wisely
Make the most of your home’s walls with floor-to-ceiling
bookshelves , floating shelves in corners, a discreet closet between wall studs, towel rods and coat hooks on the backs of bathroom or bedroom doors, and plastic containers on the insides of pantry doors and kitchen cabinets.
Let a Room Do Double Duty, Too
Claim a corner of your living room or kitchen for an office, set up your crafting area in a guest bedroom, or the master bedroom closet can become the laundry room.
Create the Illusion of More Space
Reflective surfaces trick the eye into seeing a room as larger than it is. Hang mirrored tiles on an entire wall to really open up a room. It’s that’s too much mirror for you, just use a large framed mirror as a key decorative element.
Pick Light Furniture
Furniture that is light in color and pieces that you can see underneath give a room a more open appearance.
Keep Down Clutter
Perhaps the best tip when it comes to small space living is to
keep clutter to a minimum . Don’t buy more than you need, give away things you don’t use, and stay organized. Think of your home as if it were a boat and have a place for everything — and keep everything in its place.
